TRIP DETAILS
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,800m to 3,000m
Trek Time: 5–7 hours
After a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha, you’ll check in at Machame Gate, meet your crew, and start your ascent through dense montane rainforest. The trail is alive with birdsong and towering trees. You’ll arrive at Machame Camp nestled under the stars in time for your first night on the mountain.


Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
- Elevation: 3,000m to 3,850m
- Trek Time: 4–6 hours
Today, the vegetation shifts dramatically as you ascend above the forest line. The trail opens to expansive moorlands and distant views of Kibo Peak. You’ll camp on the ancient Shira Plateau, once a volcanic cone itself.


Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Elevation: 3,850m to 3,960m (via 4,600m)
Trek Time: 6–8 hours
A crucial acclimatization day. You climb high to Lava Tower before descending to the lush valley of Barranco Camp. The views are surreal – with giant lobelias and senecios painting a prehistoric backdrop.


Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Elevation: 3,960m to 4,035m
- Trek Time: 4–5 hours
Begin with a thrilling scramble up the famed Barranco Wall, a highlight of the route. This short but adventurous climb rewards you with panoramic vistas before a gentler trail leads you to Karanga Camp.


Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevation: 4,035m to 4,640m
Trek Time: 3–4 hours
This is your final preparation day before summit night. The landscape now stark and lunar-like, you’ll rest at Barafu Camp while your guides brief you for the midnight ascent.


Day 6: Summit to Uhuru Peak – Descend to Mweka Camp
- Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (then down to 3,100m)
- Trek Time: 11–15 hours
The most demanding yet rewarding day. A midnight departure leads you to Uhuru Peak by sunrise, standing above the clouds with all of Africa below. After celebrating at the summit, descend carefully back to Mweka Camp.


Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Transfer
Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
Trek Time: 3–4 hours
Your final descent is through lush rainforest. At Mweka Gate, you receive your summit certificate before being transferred back to your hotel, forever changed by your Kilimanjaro adventure.
